Deepti Malik

I have a Bachelor’s degree from University of Delhi (B.Sc Home Science), Master’s Diploma from Symbiosis Pune (PGDBA HR), Master’s degree from Polytechnic University of Hong Kong (MA in Guidance and Counselling) and am a certified counsellor from Global Career Counsellor (UCLA extension).

In addition, I'm also an IEC (Independent Educational Consultant) with an Associate membership with Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) United States. I have worked as an HR professional for 10+ years before enrolling for the Master’s program in HongKong and starting to work with teenagers. My passion for  working with people – whether it is with students or their parents or their university admission officers - has led to becoming an independent consultant.

My work style

Let's start with the student

All young adults are different. They have their own individuality, their own unique skills and their own styles. It's important to understand them instead of trying to mould them into a set pattern. They also have their own share of stresses that sometimes we as parents don't understand. Hence my personalised mentoring style starts with the student.

I am also a strong believer in "Teamwork" and therefore work in tandem with the student and the parents on building a strong student profile so as to have it noticed by the admission officers. We work on ideas and suggestions and developing strategies on showing depth and rigour and highlighting “who they really are” with focus on the students areas of interest over a period of a few years. The process takes time, and instead of feeling overwhelmed at the last moment, it’s better to start working on “self-discovery” early. Preferably in middle school. 

Sometimes the things that limit us are so “small”, like hiring a mentor, but too overwhelming to deal with without any help. But a mentor can give sincere constructive criticism and support, making the college application path seems a lot less lonely. Does this sound like you? I am here to listen to you!
